Crushing Hard on the Johnsons

As an aspiring filmmaker, it is always encouraging to see a film with no hype, or fanfare get so many things right.

It is always lonely business seeing a movie by yourself, but I was told by a friend who was working the Lone Star International Film Festival, that this was an independent film worth my time. There was also the possibility that Jeff Bridges was somewhere in the theater (*sigh*).

I freaking loved this movie!! While there are some notable actors in this film, it is mostly comprised of people you've never seen, or heard about - and it's a good thing, because I don't think the movie works with stars.

Since we don't know who the leads are, it is easy to believe that these guys are actually brothers, struggling for success in a small town, who ultimately venture cross country in "Gomer" to become singing stars.

While the movie is not flawless, it rises above their financial limitations, with beautiful camera work, quirky characters and a surprisingly good soundtrack. This is the kind of movie I would love to be a part of in the future. If you should shoot a sequel, please keep this sister in mind and good luck with distribution.
