Amazing hook!!
30 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
A current and brilliant short movie from Flora Kung, about a pair of "privileged" teen siblings seeing their pony for the last time after abruptly learned that they are to move away. The unexpected hook at the end is such that I actually saw grown men driven to tears. Successful New York fashion designer turned writer/director Kung keeps aesthetics in check and gives a modern nod to De Sica's Garden of the Finzi-Continis. In her press kit, Kung said she wrote, directed, shot and edited this 8-minute movie all by herself, and unfortunately it shows at times, although these slight technical imperfections do not dilute the emotion and visual impact. This movie deals with today's economic crisis while being visually stunning. Highly recommended!
