The world is a stage.

Warning: Spoilers
Archie Mayo directs two stars not thought of in comedic roles. This is a fast paced romp starring Leslie Howard and Bette Davis as two well known stage actors. Basil Underwood(Howard)and Joyce Arden(Davis)are partners on as well off the stage; and their relationship is just as passionate and intense. Arguing and reconciling; on and off plans to tie the knot. Underwood does not lack any self adoration; but on New Years Eve, he decides to better himself by doing a favor for a stranger. Henry Grant(Patric Knowles), whose fiancée is infatuated with the star, asks Basil to approach her(Olivia de Havilland)and act as a cad to help her rethink her heart. Joyce is not privy to this agreement and thinks she has become part of a love triangle.

The banter between Howard and Davis is actually funny. Then when you add Eric Blore as the manservant Digges...its short of a riot. This film from the Warner Brothers Archive Collection is exactly what it is...a throwback to the days of lighthearted comedy. Don't drown in thought; sit back and enjoy. Other players include: Spring Byington, George Barbier, E.E. Clive and Bonita Granville.
