Gunsmoke: Kitty's Outlaw (1957)
Season 3, Episode 4
Is It Jealousy or Instinct
3 August 2011
Blake gets to show her acting chops, at the same time we learn that Miss Kitty has a personal life beyond the Long Branch. Big man Cole Yankton (Pryor) shows up in Dodge, and it looks like he knows Kitty well. Matt's not too happy and is suspicious of Yankton. But is it jealousy or lawman's instinct. Besides, Yankton hasn't done anything suspicious, that is, until Kitty gets Matt out of town.

Okay episode, at best. Looks like the producers wanted to throw a few more lines Blake's way than just the standard, "Have another drink". Then too, Blake shows she can rise to the occasion given the opportunity (she also looks especially glamorous for her big dramatic scene). The action segment, however, looks too convenient to be persuasive. To me, the best part is Chester's hilarious run-in with storekeeper Jonas (Greer). It's really cleverly staged, the humor being more physical than usual. All in all, however, it's an entry for fans of Miss Kitty.

In passing-- actor Pryor bears some resemblance to Arness, which may be a subtle romantic point in the story.
