hidden emotions and cholera

Warning: Spoilers
The photography and music of this film are both fantastic. The performance of Naomi Watts as Mrs Fane is really good. One of the shots I liked more about her were those where she's suffering from constant boredom.. it's somehow funny and authentic. Mr Fane is a total jerk for most of the film, punishing Kitty constantly and hiding his emotions as a master he's on that. This film should assist those unable to express themselves to practice the habit of communication, seriously! Kitty apparently yet not sexually satisfied in the beginning, she did let herself to find the satisfaction she needed, and she said sorry when she thought she had to say it. However, Mr Fane no longer talks about what he's actually thinking about; I think that's a mistake because as Kitty says, we're humans and, if you have a wife and a problem about her, should solve the problem with (not around) her at least. Anyway, I didn't get it why Mrs Fane didn't get the cholera while she was next to her husband while he was sick, did Dr Fane finally decide to inoculate her? It seems that cholera either picks randomly a victim or, I totally missed that part of Kitty's inoculation, or she's got such a superb immune system?

This film covers rural China and I'm not sure the real rural China looks like that but I think that's all about the time the movie was shot or was meant to be shot anyways. Overall, the Chinese characters are well represented though a little bit stereotyped some of them. The personal guardian for Kitty was very much fun to watch no matter what.

The moral of this film should be that you don't wait until it's too late to say "forgive me". It's a lame two people lose the opportunity to stay together in fine terms for longer. The cholera is around them and was not enough to be a sign for those to forget little things and concentrate on what it matters. Too much time spent in showing anger at one person and this one desperately needing to be forgiven, wanting to put the past in the past. Overall, this film is one I recommend for everybody to watch.
