The necklace

Jonathan has driven to Fairlawn trying to track down anything to do with the sperm bank that had burned years before. He talks to the furrier next door to find out if he can help. Unfortunately, the man has no clue as to where did the sperm bank go, but in the process he gets a mink stole for his mother. Getting home, he meets Patti Stevenson and her father. They have come to see the amateur detective to engage him to guard a valuable necklace that has been in the family for a hundred and fifty years. Her father is throwing a party and he is afraid to leave the necklace unattended.

Ray is taking a bubble bath helped by Belinda. The lady is in a playful mood, but Leah walks in on them as Belinda has reached under the water to feel Ray. Leah goes crazy. She throws Ray, who is seen running all soaped up through the streets. Ray goes to see George to ask if he can put him up temporarily. George has been entertaining Josephine, the voice coach. Ray could no come in at a worst moment. George has not been able to perform in bed and he is highly disappointed.

Jonathan comes to ask Ray and George to help him guard the valuable necklace. For that purpose, they are given a room in the place where the party to celebrate Patti's last day as a single woman is being held. Jonathan with the briefcase containing the necklace, chained to his wrist, and his friends are not ready for the intruder that comes to steal the valuable piece. Jonathan grabs a sword from a display, but the thief also knows about fencing. Jonathan wounds the man superficially, but in the process the necklace falls from the briefcase and the bandit gets it and goes away.

Later, Jonathan comes to the Waldorf Astoria to inform Mr. Stevenson, Patti's father, about the robbery. The man comes out to the door of his room dressed in a white robe. Jonathan realizes at that point the real reason for engaging him in the first place. A grateful Patti sees him off, but they are interrupted by a phone call from a woman who has information as to the donor of the sperm which help to create Jonathan.

Tristram Shapeero directed again. Mike Schwartz and Jonathan Ames wrote the screenplay. There are good moments in the episode which features Mary Steenburgen, Olympia Dukakis, Rene Auberjonois, and Casey Wilson. The director gave the chapter an excellent pacing for the action never seems to stop.
