Princess Resurrection (2007–2008)

good, but could have been so much better...

this series had the makings of something special...as it is, its not bad, but im a little disappointed that given the material, it could have been a real winner...

Hiro saves the life of a princess named Hime (which i think is just Japanese for princess, correct me if im wrong) and dies in the attempt, but she is a princess of the underworld (or something similar) and grants him half-immortality (?) as her forever loyal servant...their lives revolve around escaping or dealing with the various monsters sent by the rest of her royal siblings who are fighting for the throne of their kingdom...

Hiro is another weak main male character, with no talent for pretty much anything, and he's afraid of the attention he gets from all the cute chicks around him (why are these main guys afraid of the chicks all the time?), but he is fiercely loyal and very brave...Hiro's sister Sawawa would have to be the cutest, thickest bimbo I've ever seen in any anime and Hime is cold and uninteresting, although cute...

There's monsters, vampires, werewolves, zombies and all manner of creatures, yet its quite tame despite all this supernatural stuff. I haven't read the manga, but i've heard it was more graphic, whereas this has minimal blood and violence. For me, more focus on the action and less on the slapstick comedy could have really made this awesome.

The characters are likable, and there's the usual absurdities like Hime's android servant Flandre only ever saying 'huga', as do all the androids, with no reason given as to why...the animation is nothing special either...yet for all its faults, i couldn't help but like it eventually...maybe u will, maybe not, its quite long, so take your time.
