Pushing Daisies: Kerplunk (2009)
Season 2, Episode 13
9/10
A great but premature conclusion

It is a shame that this fine series ended after a mere twenty two episodes; at least it meant the series didn't go down hill like many series do. Being the finale this episode contains both the usual murder mystery and wraps up most of the various plot strands. Chuck's Aunts Lily and Vivian are trying to decide what to do for their late niece's half-birthday when Vivian spots and advert for the 'Aquacade'; the show that they were once part of and Chuck used to enjoy watching. They decide that they will go and see it. Meanwhile Ned wants to give Chuck a present so he decides that the two of them along with Olive and Ned should also go to the Aquacade. Before the show the aunts bump into their old rivals The Aquadolls; the reunion is not a happy one. During the show things don't go according to plan as one of the Aquadolls gets eaten by a great white shark that has been released from its pen. There are plenty of suspects of course but shockingly the dead woman names Vivian and Lily as her killers! When the show's owner invites the Aunts back to the show it gives everybody the opportunity the need to find out what really happened.

This was a great episode that had a fun mystery; murder by great white shark is a little surreal even for this show! The conclusion where things were wrapped up felt far too rushed although I'm glad we got a proper conclusion; so many shows just get cancelled without a proper ending. The ending (spoilers ahead) was a happy one; Chuck is reunited with her aunt and mother, Emerson's daughter finds him and Olive and Randy Mann get together; the only mysteries that I think went unanswered concerned the pocket watches that the late Dwight Dixon had spent several episodes searching for and what happened to Ned and Chuck's fathers?... no doubt these mysteries would have been dealt with had the series continued; alas it was not to be.
