Almost-Perfect Scenic Horror Train Derails Itself Near Trips' End
12 March 2012
The first 70% of this film is really terrific. It is just the kind of horror film I enjoy - housing a killer combination of great atmosphere, extremely smart dialogue, quick pacing and psychological terror. There is a top-notch British cast who delivers lines so mundanely shocking, that you will find yourself hitting the rewind button to make sure they said what you thought you just heard. The film's plot takes some twisted unexpected turns and you're really engrossed - when suddenly, as you near your departure, you suddenly find yourself in some strange comedic witches coven music video. I kid you not, these "witches" practice their rituals while ridiculously dancing in sync like Britney Spears' backup dancers - only about 4x as old - and spurting out dinky incantations! What a shame! Still I cannot strip the film of its merit - the beginning is so marvelous that I still gave it a 7. But be prepared for a terrible ending.
