Blood from a Stone (I) (2011)
5/10
Good to almost the very end
27 March 2012
There is much to recommend in this movie, which I saw in Paimpol last week. Daniel Auteuil does his usual fine job of acting. There are actual 3-dimensional characters, rather than 2-D stereotypes. The movie touches on a lot of important issues in this recession: how you handle employees you are forced to fire if you actually have a soul, how you deal with a banker half your age who only sees numbers and not human lives when it comes to dealing with a financial problem, how you maintain a reputation for quality when the market favors fast and cheap, etc. But the end of this movie is so poorly prepared! There were only about 10 people in the Cinema Breiz when I saw it, and we all walked out complaining about the end.

So yes, this is a film worth seeing. But be prepared not to like the last 5 minutes - at all.
