I heard that episode was pretty racist, at the same time it is but not as big as how South Park deals with religions and colors. There was once another user who reviewed this episode and he/she hated the episode because it was very racist. It was called: "Lisa minus Christianity plus Buddhism equals: A big sack of racism" i think. But it disappeared suddenly.
I do think he/she was overreacting because he/she forgets that The Simpsons is a satire cartoon and they can make fun of (almost) everything. Well let's see what you think when you see my review on what happened on the episode.
First of all Bart and Homer builds a rocket and crashes at the Church of Springfield. Not really racist because it was a coincidence it can happen in real life too, who knows? Then the whole Church turns into a Las Vegas style with signs. A bit racist but I told you it's just a satire cartoon. Then Lisa gets frustrated and quit with Christianity because of the Las Vegas Style. She want a new religion and decide to become a Buddhist. When Lisa becomes a Buddhist, Ned Flanders gets scared and don't want Buddhism to get close to him. That was racist but only on cartoon so it's OK to laugh at him for not showing respect. The Christians gets pretty mad that Lisa becomes a Buddhist and tries to turn her into a Christian again while Christmas is on it's way. Lisa gets mad, but then she finds out that Buddhist does respect other religions and holidays and even though your a Buddhist you can still celebrate many different holidays. The family at the end respects Lisa's religion and everything is OK.
The people on Springfield respects her religion ever since this episode so don't worry there hasn't been any hate episodes about her religion.
Overall it's not my favorite episode, it's an episode that you should decide if you like it or not. If you seriously hate racism don't watch this because it might be pretty hateful. If not take a look and see what you think. But I wanted to warn you that it might contain some racist moments but of course it's just a satire cartoon.
