The Don (1995)
8/10
Entertaining and Mithun second hit film after Blockbuster Jallad
23 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
During this time, Mithun was doing just about OK as some his movies were flopping miserably while some got him awards and became raging hits. During this time, he had a few other releases which didn't work and got panned by critics. The Don was Mithun's only film as the poor guy who becomes a don because of circumstances. Plus, some misunderstandings created by the villains makes Mithun kill his sister's husband which makes his sister despise him. The movie is typical during the time when Mithun is a poor guy working for some wealthy people of the area but his killing of the union leader who was his sister's husband and the misunderstanding is extremely well executed. The parts where he is the don and his powerful performance of the don is superb. Mithun plays the Don like a boss and he doesn't go to the enemy and attack like many action hero's did during this time. He plays it cool and attacks the baddies one by one. His dialog delivery is excellent and better as his Hindi now sounds good and it isn't Hindi in Bengali style. The action scenes are shot in style and are decent, thank god this film isn't like Mithun films from the late 90s where there is a lot of flying around and killing using snake moves. The only minus point is the college portions which involve some boring romance and provide less of a story. However, this is OK as it is needed in a Hindi movie although other Hindi movies have better college scenes with better comedy and romance than this. On the Whole, The Don is a hit film from 1995 and one of Mithun's decent films from those times. The film is better than Sher E Hindustan which was TLV Prasad's worst film from almost around the same time. This film was however directed by Farooque Siddique who made Vijay Path and Jigar which were both hits.
