A film that is true to life
5 June 2012
This film was shot beautifully and the tone of the film constantly reminds you of the struggle. It is unfortunate that this film took so long to make as a result of the repression that it received from Mexico's own bureaucrats. The story of "The Other Conquest" is an important one, not only to Mexico's own citizens, but to the rest of the world that continues to be ignorant towards the struggle that continues to this day.

Carrasco brings a story that is ignored in Mexico's history to life and the authenticity of the characters keeps you interested throughout. Instead of using some famous actor, who looks like he is of Aztec decent, Carrasco made a perfect choice for his protagonist. You almost feel like you are stepping back in time and watching these events unfold. Even though the main character is fictitious, you might never know that without being told.

That being said, you never are really able to pick a side because every character seems to have a legitimate reason for what they do. Whether you agree with it, or not, there is no clear cut villain, or hero. It's a story about struggle, imperialism, and the human spirit.
