Adrift: 47 Days with Sharks (2012)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Very good, if way too short, documentary about three American soldiers who survive a plane crash only to face a greater danger when they find themselves in two small rafts for forty-seven days. What's worse is that they have no food or water and the sea around them is full of sharks. The U.S.S. Indianapolis is the most famous story dealing with sharks and WWII but this one here is pretty intense as well. The biggest difference is that there weren't as many soldiers involved in this story but it's still a pretty harrowing ordeal and its made even more so when you hear what eventually happened to the soldiers who survived. The film does a very good job at explaining the situation that the men were in and we hear about a few items they were able to catch including a couple fish. Survival experts talk about how the body would be reacting with so much time at sea and we also hear from one survivor's daughter. The biggest problem with the film is that it only runs around 40-minutes and I think some more detail would have been good.
