The Mouse That Bored
26 January 2013
I'm sure there's a biting satire under all the tomfoolery going on here, but you know what? I can't find it. The message I got, is that given half a chance, everyone will gang up against the USA because the Yanks are so up their own butts they need a plunger just to see the daylight. Oh, and what was funny over half a century ago isn't quite as rib-tickling now. The actors are clearly having a ball, and it's almost worth watching just to note the earnestness that each one puts in their role. No-one, for example, can do a better drag act than Peter Sellers. But the jokes mostly revolve around old music hall routines, and what was quaintly chucklesome back then doesn't work for modern audiences now. Well, not this one anyway.
