Entertaining, but not quite masala material!
26 December 2013
We've come to know Rajkumar Santoshi as a big hit director. Films such as Andaz Apna Apna, Khakee, Pukar and more recently Ajab Ghazab but unfortunately Phata Poster doesn't quite hit those levels however can be considered an entertaining film.

Shahid Kapoor is clearly the sole of the film and does a good job however some scenes will make you feel he overacts, and it's obvious that he is no longer in the same category of those contemporaries he started with. You imagine Ranbir Kapoor, in his Ajab Ghazab ways doing a much better job of the role, however Shahid does deserve some credit as he pulls off the role quite easy.

Ilena is sweet, beautiful and full of energy but will need to work on her comic timing. She was wonderful in Barfi and needs to make sure she isn't pushed into doing those types of roles only. The role is very Shahid centric therefore Ilena hardly gets much screen time.

The supporting caste of this film make it what it is. Why isn't Darshan Jariwala seen in more films?! He is such a wonderful comedian and is fantastic in some scenes. As is Zakir Hussain, Saurabh Shukhla and Sanjay Mishra. Padmini Kholapuri makes a good comeback in a mother role, but doesn't quite look as comfortable as others.

A big plus point is Pritam's music which is top notch. Mera Bina Tu, Mera Rang and Tu Agal Bagal are my favourites.

Overall Phata Poster does entertain, but doesn't manage to hit the stop. A good effort however.
