Lal Baadshah (1999)
1/10
Amitabh's bad days
18 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The 90s were the worst period for Amitabh, except Aaj Ka Arjun(1990) and Hum in 1991 almost all his films sank, Amitabh was in his 50s and still was offered lead roles. He took a break post 1992 though Insaniyat released in 1994 and came back with Mrithyudatta(1997) which was a flop, except Bade Miyan Chote Miyan(1998) all his films sank. Lal Baadhsh was supposed to release in 1998 but due to financial problems it released in 1999. In the film we have Amitabh trying to pass off as a young messiah romancing Shilpa Shetty and Manisha Koirala, do stunts.etc The role is an extension or a spoof on Shaheenshah(1988) here too Lal Baadshah is a messiah, he has an estrant father again played by himself, surprisingly in the same year Amitabh had a dual role in Sooryansham. It also has the last appearance of Nirupa Roy who died in 2004, in her last film too she plays Big B's mother. The film seems straight out of 80s, afterall the director being KC Bokadia who helped Amitabh get a hit in his bad days(Aaj Ka Arjun). The film is really boring and predictable. Another joke is the actress who played Amitabh's sister in Aaj Ka Arjun plays his real mother in this film.

Direction is nothing great Music is okay, I Like Your Eyes is a nice song but it looks odd see the 50+ Amitabh dance to some tunes. Action scenes are straight out of 80s films

Amitabh Bachchan looks aged, wrinkled but yet does lend some flair to his stupid role, In his elder role he is okay too. Manisha Koirala gets hardly anything much to do, Shilpa Shetty is okay Mohan Joshi, Amrish Puri, Mukesh Rishi and all are as usual. Nirupa Roy is as usual,Shakti Kapoor is okay
