The Partridge Family: Danny and the Mob (1970)
Season 1, Episode 7
8/10
Barbara Rhoades and Pat Harrington

"Danny and the Mob" provides another early gem focusing on Danny, whose involvement (strictly as stock adviser) with statuesque Vegas showgirl La Von La Vine La Verne (Barbara Rhoades) has her longtime fiancée Harry (Pat Harrington) seeing red (in his first of three appearances, Jack Collins plays an incredulous stockbroker). Vic Tayback and Dick Bakalyan are Rocco and Skee, Harry's two henchmen, diligently putting the squeeze on young Danny's blowup duck, forcing the kid to coerce Reuben to help him write his last will and testament. Once he learns that his 'rival' is just a 10 year old boy, Harry instructs his boys to bring in the frightened Danny, but not without complications. Pat Harrington began his career with Steve Allen's ensemble, while radiant redhead Barbara Rhoades, ever intelligent and funny, was only beginning a busy career on television (IRONSIDE, COLUMBO, ELLERY QUEEN, SOAP). The featured song is "That'll Be the Day," a Tony Romeo original from the second LP, UP TO DATE, providing the backdrop for an almost Monkees-like 'romp,' the perfect capper for a very funny episode (Tony Romeo had already scored a hit by composing "I Think I Love You").
