Hogan's Heroes: One Army at a Time (1970)
Season 5, Episode 20

Carter joins the German army.
8 September 2014
While out of the camp on a mission to blow up a bridge, Hogan and his men run into a German patrol. Even though they are dressed like German guards, it is everyman for himself as the patrol closes in. Everyone is safe except for Carter. He has been captured by the Patrol. But the patrol thinks Carter, in the German uniform, is one of them and has just broken up a sabotage attempt at the bridge. Carter goes back to the German base where he is thought as some kind of hero.

Later Carter is able to escape and head back to Stalag 13. But Hogan has a plan where Carter will stay in the German army till the mission is completed. And with Hochstetter on the prow, it is touch-and-go a few times for Carter.

Even though this was a down right ridiculous concept, it did play well on the screen. The ever present dislike that Klink has for Hochstetter is always good for a laugh making the show entertaining even with the wild concept. Plus it was nice to see Larry Hovis given the lead for an episode.
