Lacking in Everything

This feels like it's trying too hard without actually putting any effort into it. Its many failures begins with the script. There is absolutely no character development which makes it hard to truly root for a character. There is no relationship development either, you are just presented with "titles", a commander, a master, a minister, an Emporer, etc. but you never learn of how their relationships truly came to be therefor don't feel the connections, the closeness, the hatred, etc.

Then there's the painful dialogue. Every time our "hero" speaks it feels as though the writer was aiming for a Braveheart moment minus putting actual heart into his work. "Like a cancer, it needs to be cut out" just one of the MANY cringe worthy lines from the movie and a perfect example how the script writer is aiming for a catch phrase without putting much effort into his writing. Its set in medieval times... a metaphor using cancer and surgery? Really? Ugh.

How Clive Owen and the other actors read this script and agreed to take part is beyond me.

Script aside, the music is just horrible, it sometimes becomes simply too loud, too "big" for a scene. Perhaps the music director was trying to save the scenes/movie with music. The lighting, the costumes, the set design, there is no redemption for this movie.

To be avoided.
