Warning: Spoilers
"La partita lenta" or "The Slow Game" is a 10-minute black-and-white short film written (with Umberto Contarello) and directed by Paolo Sorrentino, Italy's most famous filmmaker at this point probably. This is mostly due to his BAFTA and Oscar wins for "La grande bellezza". His muse Toni Cervillo does not appear in this short film, but he and Sorrentino have already worked on many projects at this point. This one here shows us basically the events before and during a rugby game, especially what exactly is happening to the two protagonists. Unfortunately, I can only see very short glimpses of artistry in this one and I am a bit disappointed with it as it was only made 6 years ago and Sorrentino was already a prolific and lauded director at this point. A bit surprising to see this short film some awards even. I would not recommend it. The best thing about it is still that there is no dialog in here, just some background voices here and there, so you won't need Italian subtitles if you do not speak the language. Still, thumbs down from me.
