A routine RomCom done well, a full tear jerking finale. Imran Khan is back!

Warning: Spoilers
Rarely does a director release more than one film a year, but here we have Nikhil Advani, releasing his 2nd film in two consecutive weeks in a row, Hero last week, and now Katti Batti. Again like his former release Hero, Katti Batti has also been getting not so flattering reviews from the Indian media, but where I could understand the negativity towards Hero (Hero was quite average), Katti Batti on the contrary is a well made enjoyable, romcom/emotional drama.I mean the story is quite routine and predictable, but the presentation, the films whole feel is completely fresh. I mean after watching the trailer what else did you except. For me its a winner, and Nick Advani, for me has redeemed himself after Hero.

Story wise the film is told from the perspective of Maddy. The film shifts back from present and future, and in the present Maddy is depressed, after his girlfriend of 5 years he loves dearly leaves him, they where in a live in relationship. Maddy even almost commits suicide by accidentally drinking phenyl. In the past it is shown that his girlfriend was a bindass chick who lived life freely, didn't care about much, and was a commitment phob. Maddy on the other side sincerely loved her. Eventually they both commit to each other, and decide to live together, which leads to there breakup eventually in the present. After the breakup Payal eventually blocks Maddy on all social networking sites changes her phone number etc, and Maddy is dumbfounded as to how she can forget a 5 year relationship so fast. He then finds out Payal is getting married in Delhi and runs to Delhi for answers. Why is Payal avoiding Maddy, and getting married so sudden, why did she really leave him is what forms the rest of the story.

Acting wise Imran Khan is back after the debacle of OUATIMD and Gori Tere Pyar Mein. He is back to doing his forte which is RomComs, and he probably delivers one of his best acts ever. Its a mature act, and he owns the film. Bravo. Kagana Ranut, is apt for the role and is very good.

Katti Batti is at its best in the last 30 mins of the film where its turns into a emotional drama, even I cried a bit in the climax, but I must say its a manipulative finale at its best, but it works so who really cares. If only the story was not so predictable, I mean the non- linear way of story telling does make up for a lot of the predictability, but still. I did however like how there was laughs in even the most tense situations in the film. I mean if I had too pinpot, the negatives in the film, its the routine story, and dragged screenplay at times. But these are minor blemishes

Overall watch Katti Batti, if you like tear jerking rom coms, I mean the story is routine, but its done very well. I am fan of the Indian RomCom genre so I might have been a bit biased, but even if your not, Katti Batti is definitely a one time watch.
