Another generic gay-themed short film
26 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
"Uitgesproken" is a Dutch 13-minute short film from pretty much exactly 2 years ago. This came out in October 2013. This was co-directed and co-written by Dylan Tonk and Lazlo Tonk, probably a pair of brothers. Or father and son, not sure. The actors in here are not known, at least not outside Holland. For some, it is even their first performance ever. We find out about a guy's reactions when his best friend comes out as a homosexual. Apart from the fact that this is more about the friend than about the gay guy himself, there is nothing really new about this short film that hasn't been done in other films already. It's about friendship, tolerance, homophobia and last but not least love. At least the protagonist did not become a homosexual in the end himself. I personally thought the film was okay, but just like most others of the genre, it has one major flaw: the depiction of homophobia. Reality is that apart from certain political group nobody is offended by homosexuals these days anymore, so in these movies it is always depicted much more of an issue than it really is. Fairly forgettable film with mediocre acting and script at best. I guess this film would be a lot more known if it had English language. Still, it does not deserve the attention. Not recommended.
