Truly Enchanting
30 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The Enchanted Journey starts off on a bouncy note with a pair of pet chipmunks playing in their apartment. To be more exact, Glikko is playing while Nono is telling him not to because he'll disturb the neighbours. Glikko then goes out onto the veranda and observes a pigeon, saying that if he could fly like that he would see the world. The movie itself also manages to soar and give new meaning to the title. For one thing, there is the animation, which is nice and soft in both the character animation and the backgrounds. There's also lovely dialogue. For example, when the pigeon is telling Glikko out the woods, the way he describes the carpet of chipmunks is just plain outstanding. This description appeals to Glikko and he decides that he wants to travel to the forest, despite Nono's insistence that they belong in the apartment. It's now that we get the opening credits set to a very nice song called "Dreams of Tomorrow" and I think the song fits the movie perfectly. Nono later decides that Glikko would be more suited for life outdoors after all and chews a hole in the kitchen that allows Glikko to escape. In conclusion, four things combine to make The Enchanted Journey truly enchanting. These are, as mentioned earlier, the animation (both character and background), the script, the soundtrack, and finally the message, which is essentially about following your dreams and not giving up. Glikko faces plenty of problems during his quest including evading the neighbour's cat, fighting off a rat pack, and figuring out how to fly over a busy street in a hat. The message of problem solving and pursuing your dreams is one everyone should have.
