The last 3 seconds tell it all...

Because that is when the MUTANT ENEMY logo appears, the name of the original production company Joss used for Buffy and Angel.

The name of the company that more or less changed the face of TV drama, and gave every other writer on the planet a street clinic on how to do it.

The graphic accompanying the credit is a crudely drawn monster chasing a possible victim. Which if you think about it, is the essence of everything Whedon has done since.

(For those metaphysically inclined, you can even ask yourself if the Marvel library exists to give Joss a canvas, or if Joss exists to show the potential of the Marvel characters?) In any case this is a perfect episode. The arcs from past shows crisscross against each other so fast you could get dizzy. But at the end of the day, all you really remember are the relationship issues.

The gift of Team Whedon is the ability to delineate what at first glance appears to be a simple story of beast chasing man, to man chasing relationship. And one is as deadly as the other. (The scene in Buffy where she tries to kill Angel and push him through a portal is re-visited here in subtle fashion, as Whedon almost pays homage ... to himself.) And this episode is one of the best examples of Joss and family at their craft.
