Night Flight (1933)
4/10
Early Aviation Film
21 January 2016
"Night Flight" is an early "star-studded" film following the highly successful "Grand Hotel". It has an incredible cast with the Barrymore brothers, Clark Gable, Helen Hayes, Myrna Loy, and Robert Montgomery among others. But where it fails is in keeping the multiple story lines going, something that "Grand Hotel" did very competently. In essence, the film seems to drag at points, and the pedestrian airplane footage doesn't help. While it is interesting to see how 1930s aviation functions, that's not enough to sustain the film.

The film received good critical reviews but did poorly at the box office. Similar films include "Ceiling Zero" and "Only Angels Have Wings", but my favorite early aviation films are "Wings" (1927) and "Hell's Angels" (1930)
