"Blog of a Pool Boy" is a 22-minute short film from 6 years ago and it is one of the very first on-screen appearance by the then still very young actress Rachel Bloom. She won a Golden Globe this year and she is also the reason why I came across this short film directed by A.J. Morales and also written by him together with no less than 2 other writers, both of whom also appears as actors in this little movie. And this is possibly the biggest failure. The writing here is really not good and if it was really the actors writing their characters here, you would expect something more convincing. The one with the beard who plays the main character was actually really bad. Not much talent for him, if any. The characters weren't likable either, mostly uninteresting generic hipster types that added nothing to the film. Another letdown is that Bloom was almost non-existent in terms of screen time and yet she is billed third. Skip this one, you're not missing anything.
