Warning: Spoilers
"Roughest Africa" is an American black-and-white silent film from 1923, so this one is already way over 90 years old. The only reason this one is not entirely forgotten I guess is the cast inclusion of Stan Laurel, part of what many consider the finest comedy duo in film history. Hardy, however, is not in here. But Laurel still gets a bearded co-actor who has considerably less screen time though. He, as well as the film's director, has worked with Stan and Ollie on other occasions too. Laurel's character goes to the jungle this time and we see all that goes wrong during an expedition. I must say I did not find this a funny watch at all. Not even a talent like Stan Laurel can make this script work and the elephant scene with the gun was pretty embarrassing by today's standards. If there is any reason to watch this movie, which runs slightly under half an hour, then it is because of the animals, even if they are basically just there too and not doing a whole lot. I give "Roughest Africa" a thumbs-down.
