Review of My Boys

My Boys (2006–2010)
7/10
likable standard sitcom

P.J. Franklin (Jordana Spiro) is a sports reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times covering the Cubs. She hosts poker games for her friends, and they hang out at the local bar. There's Kenny Morittori (Michael Bunin) and Mike Callahan (Jamie Kaler) who owns a sports memorabilia shop. Brendan Dorff (Reid Scott) is her college roommate who crashes at her place for extended periods. Her lawyer brother Andy Franklin (Jim Gaffigan) often lies to his wife to sneak into the game. Bobby Newman (Kyle Howard) is a reporter from another paper and new to the group. Stephanie Layne (Kellee Stewart) is her only close girl friend.

This is a standard single gal sitcom. The group is a fun bunch. I love Gaffigan who leaves after three seasons. Kyle Howard is not the usual romantic lead type. Spiro has an easy nature but she could be more tomboyish. The biggest missing aspect of this show is her job. There is one great episode about the gang at spring training. The show could do more with her work. Otherwise, this is a well made standard sitcom with a very likable cast.
