Every now and then Bonanza would do a story pairing Hoss as a friend or adversary or sometimes both with someone his size. That was few and far between because few enough people around were the size of Dan Blocker.
But on a bet Hoss takes on a traveling pugilist Michael Conrad who is preparing for one last fight against top contender Cal Bolder. Blocker gets in a lucky shot and puts Conrad in a coma for a bit.
Conrad is near the end of his line and he and wife Mari Aldon just want to earn enough money for a chicken farm. But this has really left them in a bad way. It's left Dan Blocker in a bad way too, he's really shaken by the fact that Conrad could die.
Phillip Pine has an interesting role as a real bottom feeding fight promoter who sees in Hoss a chance to make a few quick dollars. It's a pretty good story and you'll have to see the episode to see how it all comes out.
