Pioneer (2011)
4/10
Not a pioneer in terms of storytelling

Warning: Spoilers
"Pioneer" is a 16-minute live action short film from 2011, which means it has its fifth anniversary this year. The writer and director is probably the biggest name here as it is David Lowery who has worked as an editor for example on many prestigious and famous projects. And he is also the one who wrote and directed "Ain't Them Bodies Saints" 2 years after this short movie here. It is basically a bedtime story from start to finish that a father tells his son. The father is played by Will Oldham and he does a good job I think with the role. The boy is played by Myles Brooks and he is just there, has very little to work with. As a whole I must say that this film was too monotonous for my taste. It may have worked at eight minutes, but at twice this runtime, it becomes pretty boring eventually. I cannot say this was an enjoyable watch at all. Thumbs down and I don't recommend it.
