Oppam (ഒപ്പം) is a Malayalam Crime Thriller by Priyadarshan. This film is based on a story by Govind Vijayan. It is indeed a welcome relief to watch Mohanlal doing films like this. The combination of Priyadarshan and Mohanlal have given many superhits in the Malyalam Film Industry viz. Chitram, Boeing Boeing, Vandanam, Kilukkam, Minnaram etc. Oppam is no exception to this, although duo has come up with a different genre that of a Crime Thriller. But, this works too, Oppam is intriguing, gripping. It also projects the physical /mental strength and agility of a blind person.

The opening shot of the film itself is very intense where the narration in the background reads out what a convict has scribbled on jail walls about taking revenge. It makes the whole theme of the film clear that somebody is out there for vengeance.

Jayaraman (Mohanlal) is a visually challenged person but with a strong sense of smell, touch, sound. He is very sharp. He is shown as a very responsible individual, who takes care of his siblings and other family members in spite of all odds. Jayaraman works as a lift operator in a multi-storey apartment complex. He has got good relationship with almost all the residents.

Retired Judge Krishnamoorthy (Nedumudi Venu) also lives in one of the flat. He does ask for Jayaraman's company, whenever he has to travel in search of an individual.

One night, Jayaraman becomes a sole witness to a murder happened in one of the flat. Then the challenges begin. The police officials suspect him to be the murderer, doubt that he is cooking up stories about a murderer. Jayaraman has to prove his innocence. How Jayaraman traces the murderer forms rest of the story.

Who actually gets murdered and why? What was the motive behind this murder ? How does Jayaraman fight his own disability while trying to find the murderer ? What is the objective of Vasudevan (Samuthirakani)? ACP Ganga (Anushree) becomes an important part of the investigation, how? There is Baby Meenakshi as Nandini, who is another important thread of the story, how? There are many other characters in the film like the security person Kunju 'Kunjika' Mohammed (Mamukoya), Veeran (Harish), Padmakumar (Ranji Panicker), Anandan (Chemban Vinod Jose), Madhu (Kalabhavan Shajohn), auto driver Babu (Aju Varghese) and many others, how they all become part of the story is to be watched.

Certain scenes appeared to be fillers. Vimala Raman as a housemaid Devayani and her brother's sub-plot did not add much to the film. There is another scene during a marriage party, the otherwise submissive Devayani is very vivacious. This appeared out of place and did not justify her character.

Mohanlal excels in his performance as a visually impaired person. Rest of the characters are also nice. Baby Meenakshi as Nandini is noticeable.

Songs are very nice, especially 'Chinnamma Adi' and 'Minungum Minnaminuge'.

Oppam (ഒപ്പം) is an engaging Malayalam Crime Thriller. Priyadarshan- Mohanlal combination gives one more hit to the film industry.
