Sam is a pathetic character, not a sympathetic one
20 September 2016
I wanted to like this show. It started out great with Sam standing up to her younger daughter's tantrum then went downhill from there. I understand Sam is a single parent raising three girls, which is hard, but she lets her girls walk all over her. She lets them manipulate her, set the house rules, and they do as they please. Sam has checked out as a parent. She has no expectations for her daughters and no consequences for bad behavior. There's a scene in episode one, where Sam wakes up after having been manipulated by her youngest daughter to sleeping her bed. Sam finds her oldest daughter has invited two friends over. One is a girl who in the scene has her shirt off. The teens are all giggling like they are high, and as Sam turns to leave, her daughter mockingly shouts out "bring us some food!" For a moment, it seems Sam is about to barge back in and lay down the law, but she just gives up and ignores what's going on. It gets worse in Episode two where her daughters trash the house. Her middle daughter has the nerve to get upset with her mom for coming home early, but Sam does nothing. In the end, Sam cleans it up, and her daughters receive no punishment, yet Sam gets mad at her oldest daughter for not holding herself accountable for her words and actions. Why should the daughter hold herself accountable if her mom does not? Sam is pathetic. She is whiny and a parent who should not be raising kids.
