It is what it is, and maybe it's time for a reboot

It's tempting to draw upon philosophical discussions about "political correctness" (which really is rendered meaningless especially when Donald Trump virtually calls open season on anything he disagrees with as "politically correct" - I'd say that political correctness is simply manners and decency thank you very much). Anyway, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous is what it is, and ratings kept the show on air. People wanted to watch this and if it was just the 1% that watched it, then it wouldn't have lasted a season. During the Reagan/Thatcher era of the 80s much of the population wanted to live vicariously through wealthy people and their excess. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

If Jimmy Carter had been re-elected President of the USA in 1980 (and James Callaghan led the Labour Party to re-election in the UK in 1979) then maybe Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous would have just been a TV creator's dream.

It's easy to think Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous is a product of the 80s, but let's face it, so many more people now follow the lifestyles of the rich and famous on social media, reality TV, blogging, etc.
