**** THIS POST CONTAINS MANY SPOILERS****

I have now watched the first 2 episodes. My husband only lasted through the 1st. I am a former member of a multi-cultural pop girl group. I was in the music industry, working towards "making it" for the better part of a decade. Had a deal. Toured. Recorded albums, the whole nine. I'm also a huge fan of Empire, even though they often ignore important details (such as SOPs for studio recording like needing to wear headphones while recording, for example). I still love the show. Couple that with my background and I was ridiculously excited about Star.

I am, thus far, incredibly disappointed. Very clearly there is a different writer, a different director, and probably a different producer from Empire. The writing is my biggest issue, though. So. Much. Unnecessary. Drama. There is NOTHING organic about the story. Everything escalates too quickly, nothing is properly developed, we don't really know how much time has passed since the first scene where we met Star, and the fact that these girls expect to make it overnight is insane. I hate that Star is a massive slut too. She would NEVER be taken seriously in the industry. It's a small industry, and everyone talks.

Episode one was worth the watch because the 2 original songs in the episode were FIRE. The performance at the house party was great, the one at the strip club made no sense. But, the songs were really amazing.

Episode 2 had one decent song. Decent, not fire. Once more there were insane ups and downs that made no sense. A secret relationship we're instantly supposed to care about between what's her face and that guy she met at a picnic, a pastor that may or may not be in a relationship with queen latifah, an imaginary performance full of vogueing that resulted in a surprise visit from parents who "don't care", the whole thing with the "drunk"/"dead" mom, and the twist at the end where the foster father is still alive?! COME ON!! Try a little. Just a little.

Concentrate on the music and on what goes into trying to make it. That in and of itself is enough of a show and comes with plenty of drama (watch any of the Making of The Band seasons for further proof).

Ultimately, I will watch episode 3. I'm still undecided. I really WANT to love this show, but I don't yet.
