Emerald City: Beautiful Wickedness (2017)
Season 1, Episode 6
10/10
Sylvie and Tip the future.
6 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers. Observations. Opinions.

Sylvie and Tip seem to be the future of the show. They are more peripheral characters, but watch out. Sylvie is a young witch who appears frightened, but seems to be able to turn people to stone who do the frightening. From book chatter, Tip is really named Ozma, a princess who will be the rightful queen of Oz.

West still gets awesome costuming. She gets several changes, all exotic and ingenious. She is still wearing darks, as befits her personality. You will never see her in cute, flowery frocks. Her makeup is very dark, matching her dark dipped fingertips.

Is West ever happy? She seems depressed and dejected, wishing to find out from others why she feels so upset and forlorn.

The flashbacks show the wizard, Frank, as a loser scientist apprentice back in the 1990s on Earth. He is plain and not great-looking. A man with dark hair gets whacked by an explosion, and he is way better looking than Frank. Turns out the man is Dorothy's real father, who has impregnated Karen with the future baby Dorothy who is later born in Oz.

Frank decides he can really be a somebody in Oz, because he feels that his superior science is way better than the Oz-folks' superstitious magic. You can tell that a war was coming a long time ago.

Frank even shows the rubes a handgun, and they are dazzled. Before you know it, he even uses poor Anna for target practice. Bam. Boom. She is no more. Frank blows off the smoke (not), and says I coulda had a V8. (Ha). A casualty for the cause.

Anna was always telling the wizard the reasons for things, and what would happen. Frank was always pooh-poohing her knowledge. Now, he has shown everyone who is superior.

Was that a lion painting I saw on the wall? When the characters stepped back from the painting, it looked like I saw at least two lions.

So, the future may include the lion or lions, plus story denouement provided by Sylvie and Tip/Ozma. Then there is Mother South, she of the unseen personage. People are talking about her, so you know that we will be seeing her soon.
