Review of Hunted

Hunted (2012)
7/10
Not bad, but not a patch on "Alias"
7 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
When it comes to female-led spy TV series, "Alias" (2001-2006) set the bar high, and "Hunted", though a worthy effort, does not rise to those heights. It's gritty, slickly produced, well cast, well acted (particularly by Patrick Malahide), with Melissa George combining strength and vulnerability in the lead. But it lacks the character development, the scope (440 minutes all about a damn - pun intended - dam?), as well as the humor and the fun of "Alias". There is almost nobody to root for, and the script walks a fine line between "complicated" (which is good) and "muddled" (which is not). The ending is unsatisfying and unresolved. Strangely enough, the highlight of the entire series is the animated visualization of a fairy tale called "The Snow Maiden", at the beginning of the last episode. *** out of 4.
