Reconstruction of a bank robbery
23 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"Händelse vid bank" or "Incident by a Bank" is a 12-minute live action short film from 2009, so this one will soon have its 10th anniversary. The writer and director is Ruben Östlund and this is his most recent short film. It garnered a nice deal of awards attention by scoring nominations at the European Film Awards, the Sundance Film Festival and even won a Golden Bear. I personally do not really see the appeal. The fact that it is based on real events is not enough to let me like it really as it does not make the film stand out in any way. It would have been an impressive coincidence if Östlung had recorded the actual events, but reenactment is something we honestly see in every movie. Yes I was curious about what was going to happen next, but eventually, it is still a very random and not very memorable outcome we have here. If you really are interested in (botched) bank robberies, then see it. Otherwise skip it. It's something you'd expect to see in television when it comes to finding dangerous criminals, like an excerpt out of "Aktenzeichen XY". I give it a thumbs-down and I have no clue why awards bodies loved it that much.
