Review of Summerslam

Summerslam (1988 TV Special)

Warning: Spoilers
Considering that this was the first SummerSlam event that the WWF ever produced, I would consider SummerSlam '88 to be a pretty resounding success. Not every match was epic, and it isn't the best all-around production from those early years of WWF, but there are enough highlights to make it a fun watch.

These include:

-The British Bulldogs (always an entertaining pair) taking on the Rougeau brothers. -Rick Rude vs. Junk Yard Dog (Rude's act is always hilarious) -Honky Tonk Man getting destroyed by what is essentially the coming-out party for the Ultimate Warrior (at least on the kind of scale the WWF wanted to elevate him to) -Hart Foundation vs. Demolition. The two best tag-teams of the era really put on a good show. -Jake Roberts and Hercules have perhaps the best technical match of the night. -The big finale (Hogan/Savage vs. Andre/DiBiase) isn't the best pure match by any stretch of the imagination (an aging Andre will do that to a match), but again the personalities are too strong to be denied.

Bottom line: A fun, early-years WWF event to watch. A few clunkers, but most matches are entertaining in some aspect or other.
