Peep Show: Are We Going to Be Alright? (2015)
Season 9, Episode 6
S9: A solid bow-out that stays true to what it is

Warning: Spoilers
It took me ages to get around to watching this final season of a show I have enjoyed for many years. Like many, there was a little bit of a feeling of being let down when the show didn't have a 'big' finish, or produce some sort of emotional cathartic ending, however on reflection the ninth season closes it all out in a way that makes total sense.

Mostly the season plays out like the others. There is the slight distraction of some characters being limited in their time (mostly due to them having other commitments and clearly having a limited window to do this), but mostly we see Jez and Mark being the makers of their own downfalls as their distinct personalities force them down similar paths time and time again. I am reminded of the song in Magnolia where the characters all realize that nothing is going to change unless they themselves do - but of course with Peep Show the joy is that they do not have enough self-awareness to consider this for long.

There are plenty of great lines, and even if some of the narratives get a bit silly, the comedy does carry it along. Performances are strong throughout, and in the end the conclusion is fittingly downbeat and small.
