Tom is talked into quitting Patty's firm by a high powered jackass friend of his. When the clients in the Frobisher case are cut off because of Katie's false testimony, they decide to drop Hewes as their representatives. Tom, feeling his oats, decides to take the case on his own. Of course, this is all happening in the past. Ellen is in jail, accused of murder. There are a lot of implications to Tom's leaving, including being told that he will never rise to partner and will always be second best. Ellen's upcoming marriage takes some blows. Spoiled brat, Katie, is with her family in Florida, feeling sorry for herself. The episode ends with a couple surprises.
