8/10
This show is not bad at all, in fact, it's pretty dang good.

Here's the deal, I don't watch a lot of Shoujo anime, I just consider it to be the Japanese equivalent of Rom-Coms, in an attempt to get people's hopes up. This show however, proved me wrong.

I enjoyed this show, because of how realistic it is. It focuses on a main female protagonist named Mei, who has learned to distance herself from others in an attempt to keep her emotions safe. She isn't very social and can be somewhat cold, leading to further ridicule by other girls in her grade, and so her perpetual cycle of her not trusting anyone grows deeper and deeper.

That is until she, um, 'meets' a boy named Yamato. By kicking him. After thinking that he was flirting inappropriately with her when it really was another guy. However, this doesn't really bother him and he instantly becomes fascinated with her. The reason is that while he may seem extroverted, he also deals with similar problems that Mei does. The series revolves around her opening up to him, and becoming more attuned to her social life.

Yet another reason I like it is because of it's relatively tame content. A lot of Shoujo animes feature many perverted characters that obsess over the opposite gender. If you watch anime, you know the kind of characters I'm talking about. However, I can only think of one off the top of my head that can come across that way, but he only pretends to be like that to be funny. There isn't much talk about sexual activity, and it's mostly given a negative connotation when it is, which is a good thing, considering they're all in High School.

All in all, the characters are deep, and the soundtrack is pretty great as well. The only reason that this get's an 8 is that the plot isn't in focus, instead it hyper-focuses on the characters, but this series makes it work. After all, the path of love isn't without challenges. I enjoyed watching it, and I don't know why this series gets so much hate. I hope you give it a chance, as it is definitely a series that is great when you get into it.
