I just watched an hour long special where the recurring theme was the importance of hope.
The problems I have with the episode The Final Battle Part 1 is that it juxtaposes hope with delusional insanity. I totally hated the Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode that did the same thing.
Insanity is not something to toy with. No rational person would ever suggest to a delusional person that perhaps it IS a good idea to have hope that his delusions are real and that all he needs to have hope in her delusions. The whole concept is ridiculous.
In this episode we are supposed to root for the protagonist to just have enough hope ... that her delusions are real. And not just that, but that people are depending on her to conquer fear with hope based on her delusions.
In my opinion, this episode glorifies the antithesis of real heroic hope. The hope is not heroic, it is delusional.
