Dead 7 (2016)

Rather fun if just slightly flawed zombie effort
11 August 2017
Following a worldwide zombie outbreak, a small band of outlaws in the post-apocalyptic wasteland band together to drive out a demented psychopath that has taken control of an army of zombies and stop her before she turns the rest of the human race into the creatures.

This here was quite a decent enough effort. One of the best points found here is the fact that there's quite a lot to like here regarding the exploits of the different clans at war here. There's a lot to really like about how this one sets up the whole storyline about the downfall of civilization and turning it back into the Old West backdrop which in turn sets up the war at the heart of the film. Using the zombies as a soldier for the evil army is a fun idea that really gets a lot of play here with the film's big action scenes here featuring the zombies attacking, from the opening ambush of the defenseless town being overrun by the creatures, the bloody bar-fight that thins out the herd and the blazing battle with the zombies at the supply depot out in the desert which offer plenty of big thrills. The later half all features tons of big action scenes against the zombies as well, from the shootout in the whorehouse to the battle in the underground mines with the zombies to the massive finale where the zombies overrun the town and forces everything into a sense of chaos. Featuring everything going wrong at once as the zombie hordes going crazy and ripping everyone to pieces as well as unleashing plenty of strong gunfights to finally put everything down, the high-energy sequence gives this a really strong finishing stand against the zombies and the ensuing rampage works giving this one plenty of action. Alongside the great-looking zombie makeup and plenty of bloodshed, there's a lot to like here while holding it up over the few minor flaws. The biggest issue against this one is the fact that the film never really bothers to develop any kind of coherent story as this one seems to just ramble on incessantly for no real reason at times. There's never an explanation for why the whole army comes together and what the whole point of the zombie army is supposed to accomplish other than she somehow got to control them which is another facet that's never explained. This one doesn't give anything about why or how they obey her, and overall it really seems forced in how the whole apocalypse happens. The other minor issue with this one is the CGI gore which crops up far too often here and stands out for how bad it is being CGI blood-splatter which is all the worse. These here are the film's biggest issues.
