I would have given it 10 out of 10 stars but now I know they cancelled the show and it sounds like the writing got worse in the second season.
A fantastic series first season. We are waiting for the second season, but as I read reviews on the second season here at IMDb, it seems like the writers took the show to a bad place in season 2. We will look forward to seeing it, but if the second season is as bad as many report, it will disappoint...AND they cancel the show after the second season leaving it with no conclusion from what I have read. Sony is reportedly shopping it, but if it got really weird... to the occult level in season 2 like some report, we probably wont like where this goes if that's the path they stay on.
So the story...no, there aren't really people like this in the mountains in large numbers. My extended family are in Appalachia and some are serious deep mountain folk. I have never heard of a clan like this even going back to my childhood 40 years ago and I have family that owns mountains and have mountains named after them. Chances are, I would have at least heard some "Lore" about clans like this...they may have existed a hundred or more years ago, but this show is modern day.
This story is fiction. How people can watch this and complain that its just not believable, but then turn around and love a movie about space aliens we fight using fighter jets or super heroes throwing each other against buildings in a major city...is beyond me. Regardless of the subject matter, you have to suspend reality in order to enjoy fiction.
The clan in this program are a cross between some "Deliverance" level mountain folk, and a mid-evil clan or a Scottish Highland clan. Long hair, tattoos, backwoods traditions mixed with modern machines like 4-wheelers. The first season left us wanting more...its sad to read where the second season apparently went in the story...AND that this was cancelled after 2 years. It's still worth watching though...if you can disconnect yourself from becoming too needy for the conclusion...and NOT take the show seriously as if these people actually exist somewhere.
