So to start let me say I was/am a Star Trek Fan, I even loved Enterprise. That being said, The Orville is not Star Trek, though it is like ST in an alternate universe - where James T. smokes Saurian Herb instead of drinking the brandy.
I have watched 2 episodes and Ep.2 was better than the first. I am enjoying the Star Trek feel with the lack seriousness, though it sounds like Ep.3 will explore gender-reassignment surgery and the controversy surrounding it, so we may see some exploration of current issue like in ST:TOS.
I am impressed with Adrianne Palicki as Kelly Grayson - the slightly- smarter-than and maybe-still-in-love with her ex: Ed Mercer played by Seth MacFarlane. She is impressive and believable as an intelligent ex-wife. The Palicki/MacFarlane chemistry plays well and you can really believe that they were once married.
The rest of the cast is finding its feet, as is expected in any SciFi offering.
The show has great promise and I for one, will watch it.
