Another Wonderful Presentation
29 November 2017
Anne finished the last episode, returning to school with some respect, with a smile on her face. This one put another roadblock on her way to happiness. This series isn't afraid to show the hard things that went on for an orphan at this period in history. Anne confronts a form of bigotry because she is an amazing intellect, but she is also so clueless. In this episode, she has her first period, and she is frightened to death. The topic is dealt with honestly and carefully and lovingly. This would never have been done on regular network TV. She begins to feel sorry for herself, thinking that she has more troubles than anyone else. Then she finally sees the load that Gilbert must bear. There is a real connection developing. The memorable "Anne of Green Gables" moment in this episode involves her rich friend coming for tea and Anne inadvertently getting her drunk. While it is hilarious, it also leads to a devastating moment. The show just gets better. Also, Matthew, trying to get Anne a dress with puffed sleeves, encounters a first love of his. We also get to know a bit about his relationship with his deceased brother.
