WHEN THE BELL TOLLS is a particularly inept Italian WW2 movie made with a non-existent budget. Brad Harris is prominently credited but only appears briefly playing a priest in wrap-around segments, so any thoughts of him running around machine-gunning Nazis should be dismissed. Instead this is an interminable story about a war-weary priest who wanders the countryside in blue-tinted flashbacks, befriending a partisan boy and generally suffering as a result of the destruction of the era. It's mindless and completely unappetising for war fans.
