Padmaavat (2018)
7/10
Ranveer Singh just adds the tag "MUST WATCH", otherwise Bhansali gives a decent film

Warning: Spoilers
The film "Padmaavat" is based on the epic literary creation "Padmavat" (1540 CE) by Malik Muhammad Jayasi (court poet of Sher Shah Suri) & it is about the bravery of Queen Padmavati, a Rajput queen who committed "jauhar" (self-immolation) to protect herself from Alauddin Khilji in 1303 CE.

First of all, this film is made only to glorify the valour & the culture of Rajputs, not to tarnish them. So, all the tantrums regarding this film seemed exaggerating rather baseless to me. It's certainly not an outstanding as a film & not the SLB's "magnum opus" as there are some flaws but the lavishing sets, enchanting cinematography, melodious music, powerful dialogues & good performances summed up an eye-candy on-screen creation.

Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh & Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati did justify to their respective roles. Though I found the chemistry between Shahid & Deepika a bit cold & not so spontaneous. Jim Sarbh as "Hazar Dinari" Malik Kafur impressed me a lot. There was nothing to highlight in SLB's direction as it was traditional. The battle scenes were moderately crafted. But, the climax scene of "Jauhar" gave me quite an emotional feeling. I was actually feeling immensely proud that I belong to a country where our ancestral women could be that courageous & they could go to that extent to save their dignity. I pay my deepest respect to the real Queen Padmini alongwith her companions who sacrificed their lives to protect their self-esteem.

AND LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST....

What has surpassed the whole stature of the film is Ranveer Singh! His entry, his appearance, his looks, his attitude, his muscular body, his body-language, his way of delivering the dialogues --- EVERYTHING have compelled the audience to believe that there is only one actor who can portray the "beast" Alauddin Khilji at his very best and he is ONE & ONLY... RANVEER SINGH !!! He made me glued to the screen at every of his appearances. Ranveer has showed us his caliber before to play historical character in SLB's previous cinematic venture "Bajirao Mastani". Now, he has stepped up further to portray the "Sikandar -i -sani" Alauddin Khilji on the silver screen. If you're in a mood in skipping the film at theaters, & you're influenced by the controversy regarding the film, or you're thinking about direction, acting or other things..... I would suggest, IF YOU ARE A CINEHOLIC ...JUST LEAVE EVERYTHING ... AND WATCH IT OUT FOR RANVEER SINGH AS "ALAUDDIN KHILJI" & you'll NEVER be disappointed..I can bet on it !
