I never really liked Indonesian movies, because in 10 movies chances are only 2 of them are good. This movie, however, is different!
I didn't read the book (but planning to, soon), and I agree that the flirting is kinda cheesy, but it will grow on you. It feels like meeting a new person, at first you were like "what the...?" and then "oh...." and then "aww...." (maybe because I'm a woman, my husband on the other hand, laughed all the way during screening)
The trailer of this movie is misleading, they do not show you what you'll love about the movie. Many people (including me) scoffed at the trailer, but when I watched the movie it's different.
The main character, Dilan, is played by a famous Indonesian actor. He was a former kids boyband Coboy Junior member. Which is why a lot of people doubted his acting skill, including me. But boy was I wrong.. He's a perfect fit for the character, the way he talks, the way he moves, looks really natural.
Overall, I like this movie. I took my mom and family to the cinema and they love it. A lot of my mom's friends watched this movie too, to remind them of how beautiful their high school romances were.
